Hewitt-Trussville High School Exam Exemption Policy    

1.      Any senior earning an “A” average in a class for the second semester is eligible to exempt the exam for that class providing he/she has no more than three absences (excused and/or unexcused) during the spring semester. Attendance will be monitored by the individual classroom teacher.  Three tardies in one class will equate to one absence.

2.      Any senior earning a “B”  average in a class for the second semester is eligible to exempt the exam for that class providing he/she has no more than two absences (excused and/or unexcused) during the spring semester.  Attendance will be monitored by the individual classroom teacher.  Three tardies in one class will equate to one absence.

3.      Any senior earning a “C”  average in a class for the second semester is eligible to exempt the exam for that class providing he/she has no more than one absence during the spring semester.  Attendance will be monitored by the individual classroom teacher.  Three tardies in one class will equate to one absence.

4.      All Advanced Placement and Dual Enrollment students must follow the AP/DE guidelines and/or teacher direction.

5.      A senior may have two college day absences/visits for the year.  Written permission must be received from Mr. Salem at least one day prior to the college visit.  Failure to receive prior permission from Mr. Salem will result in the absence being coded as unexcused.  College visits do not count toward the absences for exemption.  No senior may take an approved college visit after May 15, 2018.

6.      Senior participants involved in school-sponsored activities (debate team, athletic competitions, choir trips, band trips, etc.) will not have their absences counted toward the exam exemption.

7.      A senior with outstanding library or parking fines, or a senior who owes the café money will not be eligible to exempt their second semester exams.

8.      Any senior found guilty of a Class II, III, or IV offense during the second semester will not be eligible to exempt any second semester exam regardless of his/her class average or attendance.

9.      A senior who does not earn exam exemption status and who fails to report to a required second semester exam at the scheduled time will receive an incomplete and therefore, could be ineligible for participation in graduation.
